In the summer of 2013 workers from Golan’s Moving & Storage came to Arise Chicago reporting extreme wage theft. Arise educated the workers about their rights and how to organize coworkers to demand a just workplace. They decided to organize, and that December voted in an NLRB election 60-11 to for union representation by Teamsters Local 705. Since that time they’ve been struggling to win their first contract. After the company canceled several bargaining sessions and refused to negotiate in good faith, the workers called a strike which began on July 28th.
