Immigrant workers are one-third more likely to suffer fatal occupational traumatic injuries than U.S. workers as a whole, and are more likely to be engaged in contingent or informal work. With support from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and in partnership with the UIC School of Public Health, this project will use existing construction hazard awareness training materials and methods to provide occupational safety and health training programs to Latino immigrants working primarily in the construction sector through a problem-solving, peer-educator approach. Not only will at least 30 workers receive a modified OSHA 10-hour hazard awareness training, but data from these trainings will be used to support a study seeking to show the benefits of health and safety training.
